Cold fire near Lake Berryessa 50 percent contained

Firefighters gain on Yolo wildfire, which has burned 5,385 acres. No structures are threatened.|

Firefighters battling the Cold fire near Lake Berryessa inched closer to containment Sunday, five days after the blaze broke out in steep, rugged terrain.

The blaze gained no ground overnight, with the number of scorched acres remaining at 5,385. Cal Fire reported Sunday morning that the wildfire was 50 percent contained. Officials are hoping to have it fully contained by Tuesday.

The blaze moved though an area of Yolo County above Highway 128, between Lake Berryessa and Pleasants Valley Road. The cause is still under investigation.

More than 1,400 firefighters, 74 fire engines, 14 bulldozers, 15 water tenders, 43 hand crews and 5 helicopters are battling the fire.

Firefighters and law enforcement personnel from multiple counties, including Napa, Yolo and Solano, are assisting in the operation.

Highway 128, which was temporarily closed, is now open to traffic, although Thompson Valley Road remains closed at Highway 128.

The fire has not destroyed any structures and there are no known injuries.
