Fire damages Fountaingrove home

Fire seriously damage a Fountaingrove hillside home Tuesday night, a Santa Rosa fire official said Wednesday.

Smoke from the 8 p.m. Fountainview Circle blaze could be seen as firefighters headed up the hill, prompting a call for more equipment and crews due to the close proximity of neighboring homes if the fire threatened to spread.

Arriving firefighters found flames coming from both floors of the back of the large, two-story home, said Battalion Chief Mark Basque.

The house, under renovation, was empty of furniture, personal belongings and residents. The flames got into the walls, ceiling and burned the second-floor flooring, Basque said.

About 20 firefighters on five engines and one ladder truck responded. The fire was under control in about 20 minutes, according to Redcom dispatch reports.

Basque estimated the fire caused $200,000 damage.

It appeared to be accidental but the cause remained under investigation. It started outside of the home and an inspector was looking at a gas barbecue recently left up against a back wall.
