34 cats left outside Marin County shelter

The people who abandoned the cats have done so at the shelter before, say officials.|

NOVATO - An animal shelter in Marin County is again dealing with a glut of cats after 34 cats and kittens in cardboard boxes were abandoned at its door.

The Marin Humane Society says the black-and-white "tuxedo" cats were apparently abandoned by the same people who have dumped cats at the shelter four other times in the past four years.

The Marin Independent Journal reported Tuesday (http://bayareane.ws/2czOJVP) the cats were dumped Sunday along with a note asking the shelter to find them homes.

The nonprofit say the same people have dumped more than 130 cats at its doors, including the batch abandoned this week.

The organization says it has not identified the people abandoning the felines.

The Marin Humane Society, which was at capacity with 135 cats and kittens, is waiving all adoption fees for adult cats through the end of September to help prevent overcrowding.
