A man was seriously injured early Friday morning after crashing his SUV on Redwood Road in Napa, police said.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was speeding westbound on Redwood Road in a residential neighborhood a few blocks west of Highway 29 when his Toyota RAV4 veered to the right and struck a parked pickup between Linda Vista Avenue and Dry Creek Road, Police Sgt. Mike Walund said.

The impact of the ?5:19 a.m. crash propelled the truck across four lanes of traffic and into another parked vehicle, Napa emergency personnel said.

The driver and solo occupant of the RAV4 suffered major head and internal injuries in the incident, Walund said. The driver was unconscious when authorities arrived on scene, Napa Fire Capt. Steve Becker said.

The man was transported to Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, then flown to the regional trauma center at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Walund said.

His name has not been released because of the severity of his injuries and the need to notify family members, the police sergeant said. Redwood Road, a major thoroughfare on the northern end of town, was closed to through traffic for six hours and was finally reopened around 11:20 a.m., police said.
