Emergency crews rescue two Sonoma Coast visitors trapped by tide at Bodega Head

Two men trapped by the tide on the shoreline rocks of Bodega Head were rescued Sunday, officials said.

The men called 911 about 5:30 p.m. and several agencies, including Bodega Bay fire, the U.S. Coast Guard, California State Parks and the Sonoma County sheriff’s helicopter unit responded to the Sonoma Coast.

They were spotted about 500 yards south of the Bodega Bay Trailhead parking lot near the water, Bodega Bay Fire Capt. Lou Stoerzinger said. The men apparently hiked down from one of the trails and were trapped when the tide began coming in, the captain said.

The helicopter team lowered rescue personnel down to the men on a long line apparatus and brought them up to safety, one by one, dispatchers said.

The uninjured men were being evaluated on shore by 6:07 p.m.

Stoerzinger said the men appeared to be in their 20s and were visiting from out of the area.
