Mudslide destroys San Rafael home

A Marin County family watched in horror as their home was split in half by a wall of mud earlier this week.|

Crews rescued residents from rising floodwaters Tuesday in Marin County, where a mudslide toppled trees and split a hillside house in half.

San Rafael Firefighters posted a dramatic video on Facebook of the moment a wall of mud took out a home on Mountain View Avenue in the Dominican neighborhood in San Rafael around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

"This storm packed the biggest punch ... of all the storms we had this year," the county's fire department Battalion Chief Bret McTigue said.

The homes on either side of the demolished house have been red tagged, as the earth behind the homes continues to be unstable.
