A Santa Rosa man who molested an 11-year-old relative over an extended period last year was sentenced Thursday to more than 32 years in prison.

Jose Alberto Corado-Merlos, 34, was convicted by a jury of 15 felonies including aggravated sexual assault of a child. Evidence showed he molested the young family member while on probation for domestic violence.

Prosecutors sought the maximum punishment of 49 years plus 30 years to life in prison. Judge Elliot Daum instead sentenced him to 32 years and four months in prison.

“This sentence, while lengthy, will not erase this victim’s childhood trauma,” Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch said in a press release. “The defendant deserved every day the law allows to keep him off the streets.”

Corado-Merlos is eligible for parole after serving 80 percent of his time.
