Two brush fires in hills above Glen Ellen

Two brush fires possibly sparked by a downed power line burned Tuesday in the hills above Glen Ellen before being extinguished, according to a Sonoma Valley fire official.

The fires were along the 4300 block of Warm Springs Road near Wolf Run, Battalion Chief Spencer Andreis said Wednesday.

Firefighters were called about 3 p.m. to Warm Springs Road expecting to find a single fire but spotted a second column of smoke as they approached. The larger fire was about 2½ acres and the second fire about a half-mile away burned less than an acre.

The flames had moved into thick brush and trees, and firefighters worked in the area until 8 p.m.

Cal Fire investigators are looking into the cause, but firefighters found a downed power line at the site of the larger fire, Andreis said.

Nine fire engines responded from Cal Fire, Sonoma Valley and Kenwood. Cal Fire also sent aircraft, a bulldozer and two hand crews to cut up the brush.
