A 10-year old Lake County boy was flown via helicopter to UC Davis after colliding with a car Monday while riding a bike in Lucerne.

About 4:23 p.m., the boy, Ashton Kruenegel, of Lucerne, was riding a black Hyper bicycle in a southeasterly direction at Country Club Drive and 14th Avenue when he rode straight into the path of an eastbound white Dodge Neon traveling at 35 miles per hour, the CHP said.

Kruenegel’s bicycle collided with the left front bumper of the Dodge Neon, causing him to be ejected from the bicycle and hit the car’s windshield, then the road, according to the CHP.

The juvenile was flown to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. The driver, 56-year old Chris Sorenson, also of Lucerne, was uninjured.

The CHP does not suspect alcohol or drugs were a factor, according to Officer Kory Reynolds.
