A single-family home in Santa Rosa's southern outskirts was destroyed Tuesday in a fire that reportedly started amid nearby vegetation.

Reports came in about 5:26 p.m. of the fire on Millbrae Avenue near Labath Avenue, west of Highway 101 between Rohnert Park and Santa Rosa, and emergency dispatchers closed the call about 8:32 p.m.

No one was injured in the fire, but the home, which was apparently vacant, was a “total loss,” said Santa Rosa fire Battalion Chief Mark Basque. A large amount of debris also burned, and firefighting was complicated by a fallen power line, a gas meter that burned away and trees that also burned and were “periodically falling down in large chunks,” Basque said.

A home next door was threatened, prompting the evacuation of the occupant and his animals, but firefighters saved it from any damage, Basque said.

Firefighters from Rincon Valley, Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, Cal Fire, Rancho Adobe and Gold Ridge responded to the incident, according to emergency dispatchers.
