Red flag fire warning in place for Sonoma, Napa counties this weekend

The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather alert based on expected high temperatures, low humidty and high winds.|

Forecasts calling for heat, gusty winds and low relative humidity have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a fire weather warning for the North Bay, focused especially on higher elevations of eastern Sonoma County and Napa County starting late Friday and lasting through Saturday night.

Temperatures in the region peak at 100 degrees Friday and 105 degrees Saturday. Northerly winds are forecast to gust up to 40 mph Friday into Saturday and with potential for single-digit humidity levels.

During the warning period, the Rincon Valley-Windsor Fire Protection District asked that residents refrain from several activities, including campfires and outdoor fire pits, lawn mowing and all use of power equipment near dry brush.

Sonoma County residents can get the latest public notifications by signing up for emergency alerts at www.socoalert.com.

Cooler temperatures are forecast to return to the North Bay on Sunday and Monday.
