Long respected among rafters for the strength and durability of its whitewater helmets, in recent years Norway-based Sweet Protection has been gathering kudos for ski helmets. At just over 1 pound, the lightweight and well-ventilated Igniter was named by Outside Magazine as a top pick for spring conditions. The Igniter utilizes advanced Superlight ABS thermoplastic shell, EPS impact foam, and the company's own Impact Shield technology to distribute impacts at the back and front of the helmet – precisely where protection is most important.

Other features worth noting include a moisture-wicking Coolmax liner that can be removed for washing, vents that adjust, a cushiony chin strap, the sophisticated OcciGrap fit adjustment system and removable ear pads.
