Lakeport woman suspected of firing BB gun at cars

Calls about a woman pointing a gun at cars along a Lakeport street resulted in the arrest of a Lakeport native suspected of firing a BB gun and being drunk in public, according to police.

Officers arrested Amber Renae McKinney, 27, after finding her near 600 Martin Street. Police Chief Brad Rasmussen said officers saw her pointing what appeared to be a rifle at passing cars.

Officers held her at gunpoint, ordering her to drop the weapon. The woman complied and was taken into custody.

They found the rifle fired BBs and that the woman was drunk, Rasmussen said in a release issued Tuesday.

She'd apparently been shooting at beer cans set up on the north edge of the street. That stretch of Martin Street is about five blocks off of the town's Main Street and the shores of Clear Lake.

McKinney, who also goes by Amber Hulsey, was booked into the Lake County Jail at about 4 p.m. Sunday, on suspicion of negligent firing of a weapon and being drunk in public, misdemeanors.

She remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Rasmussen said shooting any type of weapon, whether lethal or a BB gun, toward or across a roadway is illegal and creates a dangerous situation.
