Mobile home fire in Santa Rosa caused by electrical malfunction

Fire that destroyed a Santa Rosa mobile home Thursday may have started with an electrical malfunction, said a Santa Rosa fire official Friday.

The investigation into the cause of the Journey's End mobile home park appeared to point to an outside freezer, said Battalion Chief Mark Basque.

The 1:50 p.m. fire destroyed a single-wide home and damaged three others.

Basque said the small freezer was at the home that was destroyed.

Combustibles stored around the freezer also likely added to the fire's quick spread, he said.

The fire caused about $125,000 in damage.

While the freezer connection to the cause wasn't definitive, it was probable, Basque said.

"The indicators point to that," he said.
