Suspected human trafficking victim arrested in Santa Rosa prostitution case

Santa Rosa law enforcement officers Wednesday arrested a 16-year-old on suspicion of loitering with the intent to engage in prostitution.

Officers from the Sonoma County Human Trafficking Task Force, which includes Santa Rosa police and Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, were acting on information from the Department of Homeland Security.

Police would not release the name of the girl, who was arrested at a hotel in Santa Rosa. Based on her age and the apparent lack of relatives or guardians in or near Northern California, she was taken to Sonoma County Juvenile Hall, Santa Rosa police said.

Officers said they believe she is a victim of human trafficking, and will be provided services from the Family Justice Center Sonoma County.
