Mountain lion spotted near SSU

Rohnert Park police early Wednesday were patrolling near Sonoma State University, looking for a mountain lion spotted there Tuesday.

College officials on Tuesday put out an alert to staff, students and faculty about the sighting.

The lion was seen in a construction site on the edge of the campus Tuesday at about 6:30 a.m.

?I?ve got units out there again just in case it comes back out. Early in the morning we?ve got a lot of joggers that run up and down that street,? said Rohnert Park Sgt. Dave Saldanha.

Police officers planned to patrol the area into the morning and alert state Fish and Game officials.

The college is on the eastern edge of town and is adjacent to Sonoma Mountain.
