Volunteers sought for trail work party at Sugarloaf Ridge

A Bay Area conservation group is looking for volunteers to work on a trail restoration project this weekend at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park.

The group, Volunteers for Outdoor California, will be working Saturday and Sunday on the Pony Gate Trail, which is part of the Bay Area Ridge Trail.

The five-year-old Redwood City-based group will be setting up camp at the Group Campground, where work volunteers can also camp beginning Friday night.

Tools and meals on Saturday and Sunday will be provided, although volunteers are urged to bring gloves, water bottles and eating utensils, said spokeswoman Cathy Moyer.

Moyer said they hope to have 120 to 125 workers, who will be restoring the trail, building drainage and a working on a retaining wall on a mile of the trail.

Volunteers can register at www.v-o-cal.org or at the campground, Moyer said.
