Letter of the Day: Watchdog needed

Watchdog needed

EDITOR: I want to be a congressman. After all, what other job is there where you get outstanding medical benefits at no cost, unbelievably generous time off (referred to as recess periods) and retention on the job even though very little ever gets accomplished?

After the current recess, there will only be nine working days to deal with a looming budget crisis that conceivably can shut down the federal government.

Many of the present members of Congress seem far more interested in adhering to their obstructionist ideology than in serving as officials elected by the citizens to act in the best interests of the country. We should take another look at realistic term limits. Some who are presently serving seem to have outlasted their usefulness.

Congress needs a watchdog who is empowered to bark and even bite if necessary.
