49ers at Kansas City Chiefs
WHERE: Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, Mo.
WHEN: Friday, 5 p.m.
TV: Ch. 5
RADIO: 810 AM
THE OPPONENT: The Chiefs are in the preliminary steps of a reconstruction with a new coach in Andy Reid and a new quarterback in Alex Smith. After a 2-14 finish in 2012, just about any step in the right direction would be applauded. But confidence is high in Kansas City that those positive steps could be giant strides.
THE REUNION: For as long as his playing time lasts, Chiefs QB Alex Smith will have the chance to show the 49ers what they don't have anymore. He has to like the view from behind the K.C. offensive line, a strength of the team a year ago and bolstered by the No. 1 overall draft choice, tackle Eric Fisher.
PASSING GLANCES: The story when the 49ers have the ball will continue to be the corps of wide receivers. This scrutiny doesn't figure to ebb anytime soon. Does the team has a legitimate deep threat? Where are Michael Crabtree's receptions going to go? A lot of eyes will be on new arrival Austin Collie.
NEW FACE BEHIND CENTER: 49ers rookie B.J. Daniels expects to see his first playing time at quarterback. Daniels was getting a lot of the reps at practice leading up to Friday's game.
