Trail of glass leads Lakeport police to DUI suspect

Witnesses and a trail of glass helped Lakeport police find a driver suspected of crashing into an auto dealership, authorities said.

Christopher Don Coffer, 25, of Lucerne was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and hit-and-run causing property damage, Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen said.

Witnesses reported a car crashed into at Hillside Honda on South Main Street at 5:56 a.m. Sunday and that a driver and two passengers were running away, Rasmussen said.

Coffer is suspected of returning to the 2013 Toyota Scion, ramming the building again in an attempt to free the car then speeding away, police said.

Following witness reports, officers found a trail of broken glass about 10 blocks north on Seventh Street and found the scion and Coffer just before 7 a.m., Rasmussen said.
