KSRO seeks to expand to FM radio

The parent company of KSRO AM announced a deal Monday that will enable the Santa Rosa station to expand its broadcasts to FM radio.

Sonoma Media Group paid $125,000 to acquire control of a frequency from KORB, a Christian rock station in Hopland.

KSRO has been broadcasting on 1350 AM since 1937. Pending FCC approval, it plans to simulcast its programs on 107.9 FM within three months.

"In the broadcasting business, one always needs to 'fish where the fish swim' and there are literally tens of thousands of Sonoma County residents who will soon discover the news and talk shows we offer simply because we will be broadcasting on FM as well as AM," Sonoma Media owner Lawrence Amaturo said in a statement.

KSRO is owned by Sonoma Media Group, which also owns 97.7 The River, Hot 101.7, Froggy 92.9 and Mix 104.9. It is not related to Sonoma Media Investments, which owns The Press Democrat.

KORB, which is operated by One Ministries, will continue to broadcast in Sonoma County, but at 91.5 FM.
