Police: Clearlake mom suspected of DUI, beating ex-boyfriend

A Clearlake woman remained in jail Tuesday, suspected of driving drunk with her young son and battery on her former boyfriend, reported Clearlake police.

Officers were called to a Meadowbrook Drive home about a woman and wanted to drive away from the home with her young son, reported Clearlake Sgt. Nick Bennett.

Arriving police officers saw a car speeding from the home as they arrived.

They caught up with it on Highlands Harbor Drive and stopped the car. Driver Sandra Gonsalves, 42, of Clearlake was with her five-year-old son, Bennett said.

Gonsalves failed sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and child endangerment.

Officers also found the woman and her ex-boyfriend, the little boy's father, had been in an argument prior to her driving from the home.

The man appeared to be a victim of battery and officers also arrested her on suspicion of domestic violence, Bennett said.

The man, whose name wasn't released, was wanted on an arrest warrant and he too went to the Lake County Jail after Saturday's 10:30 p.m. incident.

Their son was taken by relatives, Bennett said.

Gonsalves was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail.
