Five Sonoma County schools earn 'California Distinguished School' awards

Five Sonoma County middle and high schools were among the 218 campuses named Thursday as California Distinguished Schools.

Orchard View and Twin Hills Charter Middle School in the Twin Hills School District, Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa City Schools, Hillcrest Middle School in Gravenstein School District and Technology High in Cotati-Rohnert Park School District were all honored for strong academic records and closing the achievement gap between whites and students of color.

Elementary and secondary campuses are recognized in alternate years.

Schools will be honored next month.
