Weekend fundraiser set for Santa Rosa crash victim

A fundraiser will be held Saturday afternoon at Gio's Pizza in Bennett Valley for a Santa Rosa man severely injured July 3 when his motorcycle was hit by an elderly driver.

The event for Alan Richardson, 27, will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Yulupa Avenue restaurant in the Annadel Shopping Center.

Richardson, who grew up in east Santa Rosa, was riding his motorcycle along Bennett Valley Road when a 93-year-old driver turned into him, according to police reports.

Richardson lost a leg from the crash and suffered paralysis of his remaining leg, as well as other injuries.

Unable to work at this point, he's facing steep costs to remodel his home to accommodate life in a wheelchair and pay for medical care, said his father, Dennis Richardson.

Donations may be made to the Alan Richardson Trust Account at Redwood Credit Union.
