String of local break-ins continues

Petaluma Police said Tuesday that the rash of local break-ins that began last summer continued this week, with 21 incidents reported during a five-day span.

According to Police Lt. Tim Lyons, from April 29 through May 4, the police department received three vehicle, five commercial and 13 business or residential break-in reports.

In one instance, a business located in the 700 block of Petaluma Boulevard North discovered Saturday morning that someone had stolen a large, marble turtle statue in front of their store, weighing more than 500 pounds and valued at approximately $2,000. The business owners said it would have taken a forklift or at least four strong people to move the statue.

The department is asking that anyone with information on these, or any other local break-ins, call the police at 778-4372.
