Casino opponents' lawsuit against Rohnert Park dismissed

A lawsuit filed against Rohnert Park by opponents of the Indian casino under construction outside the city has been dismissed in court.

The Stop the Casino 101 Coalition sued the city in November over its agreement with the Federated Indians of GratonRancheria to widen Wilfred Avenue, the main access to the casino resort.

The suit challenged the city's conclusion that the project is exempt from state laws requiring environmental studies. It also said the widening work would endanger the threatened California tiger salamander.

In his ruling, Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Elliot Daum said "each of the causes of action alleged in the petition lacks merit." He also said that under the law the project was exempt from state environmental laws.

Chip Worthington, a leader of Stop the Casino 101, declined to comment. Attorney Bruce Miroglio of St. Helena, who was handling the case, did not return a call for comment Wednesday.
