Mouthful: Time to get crafty

Craft Fair Watch: This weekend, there are three craft fairs we recommend.

First, on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., it's Bijoux time, one of our favorite sales of the year.

Participating artists this year include Barbara Harris with necklaces, earrings and assemblage art; Naomi Lasley with wonderfully whimsical ceramics; Paula Strother with papier-mach?vases, sconces and delightful painted shoes and Pat O'Connell with beaded bracelets. Annie Roberts is also participating with her whimsical head-toppings that pretty much defy all attempt to assign them a tradition name. At first, she called them tiaras, a lovely word but not on point.

You could call them crowns or hats but those words don't really nail it either. For now, we'll just call them delightful and encourage you to take a look.

Bijoux takes place at 583 Harrison St. in Sebastopol.

At this week's Sebastopol Farmers Market, the Kahaulani Hula Studio of Santa Rosa will have a booth for its "Hawaiian Kine Christmas Crafts," handmade by students of the studio.

You'll find such one-of-a-kind treasures as floral tiles, a mermaid wall hanging, Hawaiian bags, jewelry, flower hair pieces, gourds and more.

For the month of December, the Sunday market takes place in the plaza itself, leaving the parking lot available to shopper. The market opens at 10 a.m. and continues until 1:30 p.m.

In Petaluma on Sunday, Christkindlmarkt takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hermann Sons Hall (860 Western Ave.).

The fair features traditional German, Austrian and Swiss crafts, food, music and entertainment. You'll find needle crafts, wood crafts, quilted items, candles, baked goods, chocolates and other candies and more. Hurry, find your lederhosen!

Shed Open House: This Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., Healdsburg's Shed (25 North St.) hosts its first holiday open house, with live music, hand-pressed apple cider, roasted chestnuts and lots of surprises.

There is no admission fee.

On Friday, Shed will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and then at 8 p.m., the upstairs "Grange" opens for a live performance by Echorev, an international duo featuring Johnny Nicholson of California and J?n Bielfeldt of Germany.

Their latest release is "The Mermaid & The Astronaut" (June, 2012); the indie rock band is currently based in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Healdsburg indie rock band Floral will open the show, with their contemporary interpretations of 1950s and 1960s pop music.

Admission is $10 in advance at brownpapertickets.com and $15 at the door.

A DaVero Tradition: Today, DaVero Tasting Room hosts its fourth annual "Day After Thanksgiving" fete, which offers an opportunity to relax under the arbor, enjoy DaVero wines, buy a few gifts and enjoy foods prepared to order by Rosso Pizzeria.

Rosso will be offering Margarita pizzas, pizzetta with burrata and prosciutto, roasted cauliflower with or without sausage, polenta and lemonade.

Prices range from $2for lemonade to $13 for cauliflower with sausage. Wines will be available for purchase by the glass and bottle.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket, a frisbee and the whole family, including your well-behaved pup.

The free fete takes place at the DaVero Tasting Room and Winery, at 766 Westside Road in Healdsburg from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Relish Celebrates Ten Years: Today from 5 to 9 p.m., Relish Culinary Adventures hosts an open house celebrating its tenth year.

The fete includes nibbles by Relish chef Anne Cornell, wine tastes from Murphy-Goode, Rosenblum Cellars and MacPhail Family Vineyards, drawings for free classes, cookbooks and pantry essentials and one-night-only discounts on a range of items.

There will also be book signings throughout the event, featuring Andrea Mugnaini of pizza-oven fame, John Ash and Ms. Mouthful.

The event is free and reservations are not necessary. Just drop by 14 Matheson St., Healdsburg.

Washi Egg Time: On Wednesday, Barbra Friedman hosts her first Washi Egg class of the season at Coffee Catz (6761 Sebastopol Ave., Sebastopol).

The class takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. and the cost is $30 per person, which includes instructions and materials to complete three beautiful eggs.

Additional materials, including full kits, will be available for purchase.

This is an ancient Japanese craft, in which eggshells are decorated with beautiful handmade mulberry paper and then displayed or given to friends and family as gifts to represent new beginnings.

A second class will be held Dec. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Tiny Town Cafe (6544 Front St., Forestville). The fee is the same.

Lunch will be available for purchase at both locations.

Friedman is leading Washi egg expert; her achievement include teaching the craft to Martha Stewart.

She is also a masseuse.

Tavern Toys: Starting Dec. 2 and continuing through Dec. 8, HopMonk Tavern offers a $5 gift card to everyone who donates a new, unwrapped toy.

Items can be dropped off at any of the three North Bay locations, including the Sebastopol tavern at 230 Petaluma Ave. in Sebastopol, the Sonoma tavern at 691 Broadway in Sonoma and the Novato tavern, at 224 Vintage Way in the Novato Shopping Cetner.

The Novato location is also accepting donations of new clothing.

Each individual donating an item or items will receive one gift card.

Safari West Block Party: There are three Sundays left in Safari West's Open House and Block Party; the next takes place this Sunday.

Here's how it works. This Sunday and on Dec. 8 and 15, Safari West is offering reduced-rate tours for adults and free tours for children accompanied by an adult.

Adults will pay $25 instead of $30, and each paying adult may bring one child at no charge. Additional children, aged 12 and under, are $10 each. The standard tour charge for children is $20.

Tours take place on the African Queen trailer or the Nairobi bus and are available at 9and 11 a.m. and 1 and 3p.m.
