Supporting choice

EDITOR: As a citizen of Santa Rosa and a proponent of sustainability, I support Sonoma Clean Power. However, there are some in our community who would like to see changes to the joint powers agreement prior to their city joining as partners with SCP.

While I support the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, I ask that leaders of our city not be deterred by details that can be changed later. Currently the Board of Supervisors wants to hold off on decisions so that cities will have more influence after they have joined.

Unfortunately, if the cities don't join, then the decision-makers will be the supervisors and representatives for a few cities, greatly minimizing local input. As this directly impacts every member of our community, the more community input the better.

Sonoma County has been on the forefront of advancing green energy, which Sonoma Clean Power will continue to do.

I hope that environmental, social and political activists would realize that Sonoma Clean Power is a step in the right direction toward environmentally sustainable energy, much more so than PG&E currently is. By joining this program, city partners will enjoy more renewable energy, create competition for PG&E's rising rates and have money that will stay in Sonoma County. PG&E's current monopoly jeopardizes our voice and local economy. I hope you will join me in supporting choice for Sonoma County citizens.
