A man walking in a crosswalk on Seventh Street in downtown Santa Rosa Thursday night suffered minor injuries after being struck by a car, police said.
The man was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with back pain, said Captain Roy Keegan of the Santa Rosa Fire Department.
Keegan said he didn't know the man's name and he appeared to be homeless.
A young woman driving a white Toyota Echo hit the man when she was making a left-hand turn from northbound B Street onto Seventh Street, said Scott Serena, a field evidence technician with Santa Rosa police.
She was driving at a low speed and the impact appeared to be minor, Serena said.
Steady rain fell at the time of the crash, which occurred shortly after 6 p.m.. The driver would not comment on how weather conditions might have affected her view of the road.
Two North Bay Area residents died last week in separate pedestian-vehicle collisions while attempting to use crosswalks.
Michelle Cordova, 15, was killed Jan. 27 attempting to cross West College Avenue in Santa Rosa when she was hit by a car. A day later in St. Helena, 82-year-old Elsie "Alice" Stefani was killed when she was hit trying to cross Main Street downtown.
