'100 Thousand Poets for Change' set for Sept. 24

You wouldn't necessarily expect a worldwide movement to start in Guerneville, but all things are possible via the Internet.

Michael Rothenberg, a poet and website editor who lives in Guerneville, has been working on an event he calls "100 Thousand Poets for Change." It's actually a collection of events scattered all over the world, all set for Sept. 24, and it's going to be big.

"So far, '100 Thousand Poets for Change' has over 230 cities and 54 countries signed on to organize events as part of a global initiative to celebrate and demonstrate poetry and address issues of peace and sustainability," Rothenberg said.

There are 11 events in San Francisco alone. Participants include City Lights bookstore, Oakland Slam poets, Free University of San Francisco and more.
