Woman injured in suicide jump from downtown Santa Rosa parking garage

A Santa Rosa woman suffered serious injuries Tuesday morning after apparently jumping from the fifth level of a downtown Santa Rosa parking garage, police reported.

A caller saw her hit the ground at the base of the Seventh Street garage and called for help, said Sgt. Rich Celli. The call was made at 7:55 a.m.

The call brought police, paramedics and firefighters to the downtown garage. Helga Harmon, 59, was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, suffering from several broken bones.

Investigators determined there was no sign of foul play or that the woman had fallen accidentally, said Celli.

Evidence indicated at Harmon had smoked a couple of cigarettes and was consuming alcohol before what police are considering a suicide attempt, said Celli.
