A judge ruled Wednesday there was sufficient evidence to try a Boyes Hot Springs man on charges of attempted murder and other crimes in an April attack on a developmentally disabled Sonoma Valley man.
Judge Dana Simonds ruled Logan Dunning, 22, should be held to answer in the beating and stabbing of Austin Ridge, 28, who became disabled after a car crash eight years ago.
After a daylong preliminary hearing, Simonds also found Dunning could be tried on a charge of mayhem and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, as well as enhancements for causing great bodily injury.
In addition, she said there was evidence Dunning was involved in the burglary and arson of six cars in the Santa Rosa area. He faces a long state prison term if convicted.
Ridge, a popular Sonoma Valley figure, was riding home from a pub on a customized tricycle when he was attacked. He suffered a broken jaw, fractured nose and severed ear, among other things.
He attended Wednesday's hearing with his mother and other family members but did not testify. His mother, Kim Ridge, said Dunning deserves the maximum if convicted, "so he's not on the street."
A trial date has not been set. The next hearing is Nov. 27.
