EDITOR: I'm no fan of the CIA, but once again, a public servant, David Petraeus, supposedly had to resign from his post because of an extra-marital affair, and the people lose.

The most glaring example of the public getting hurt by these tired old ethics (sex and marital agreements are a personal matter) was the dismissal of Elliot Spitzer as the finest governor in recent New York history because he engaged the services of a paid courtesan. Breaking an agreement with a significant other is wrong, but it's not a public matter. New York lost because of tired old ethics.

Monogamy is a shaky experiment at best. When will America and its press grow up and stop "cheating" the public out of officials who are serving them well?
