Mendocino sheriff, Board of Supervisors at odds over TV deal

Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman wants to give a TV production company unprecedented access to his department's marijuana eradication activities in exchange for a $10,000 "gift."

He saId the proposed miniseries would give him control over the way the county's response to the pot culture is portrayed. But the county Board of Supervisors isn't convinced.

Supervisors expressed concern about the contract proposed between the sheriff and Studio Lambert during their board meeting Monday. They expect to make a decision about the proposal Tuesday.

Allman has said he does not need board approval, but supervisors believe they have authority in the matter because the filming would affect the Sheriff's Office staff, who are county employees.

The producers plan to interview members of the office's marijuana eradication unit and accompany them during investigations.
