Plans for the long-awaited regional park on Taylor Mountain overlooking Santa Rosa will be the subject of a public meeting Wednesday.
The 6:30 p.m. gathering at the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building will allow for feedback on resource management and an environmental report for the 1,100-acres of open space.
It is the fifth and final meeting of a two-year process to craft a master plan and compete an environmental review for the future park. The deadline for comments on the environmental report is July 16.
The Taylor Mountain area stretches from Petaluma Hill Road to Bennett Valley Road. It was assembled by Sonoma County's taxpayer-supported open space district through four separate land purchases totaling $21 million from 1995 to 2005.
Access to about 820 acres has been offered under a permit program supervised by the conservation group LandPaths. General public access could be granted as soon as December, contingent on the Board of Supervisors' approval of the master plan in September and transfer of the property to the county's regional parks department. Access would be off an entrance on Kawana Terrace Road.
Given a go-ahead by county supervisors, design and engineering work for park improvements would commence later this year, with construction set to begin next fall.
