Fifth candidate enters Sebastopol City Council race

A fifth candidate has entered the race for two seats on the Sebastopol City Council.

Colleen S. Fernald, 50, an artist and sustainability consultant, has notified the city clerk of her intention to run.

It will be Fernald's third bid for a council seat. She ran in 2008 and 2010 and also ran for the U.S. Senate in 2006 and 2012.

Fernald frequently attends council meetings and speaks on a number of issues, but her overriding message has been opposition to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The seats up for re-election in November are held by Mayor Guy Wilson and Councilwoman Kathleen Shaffer.

Shaffer is seeking re-election, but Wilson is not.

The other candidates are Robert Jacob, a city planning commissioner and executive director of a medical marijuana dispensary; Kathy Austin, an architect and former Sebastopol mayor and councilwoman; and John Eder, a sales representative for a Boise, Idaho, manufacturer of firefighting equipment who also served on the Cotati City Council.
