YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK — A 23-year-old woman who was reported missing when she failed to show up for her first day of work at a hotel in Yosemite National Park over the weekend was found Tuesday, park officials said.
Search crews located Jessica Rose Garcia around 1 p.m. as she was hiking off-trail in a rugged area in the southern portion of the park, said park spokesman Scott Gediman. Garcia appeared to be OK but was being taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation, Gediman said.
After being checked at the hospital, Garcia would be interviewed by park rangers to determine why she failed to report to work, Gediman said.
"We don't know why she went there," Gediman said. "That will be part of the interview by park rangers."
Garcia was hired by DNC Parks & Resorts at Yosemite Inc. A search was mounted after she failed to show up for work at the Wawona Hotel and rangers checked her residence Sunday, Gediman said.
Initially, park officials had said rangers checked her residence Saturday.
The park's helicopter, rangers on horseback, 23 rangers on foot and six dog teams were used in the search.
