Cloverdale City Councilman Mike Maacks is not running for re-election, and as a result the deadline for other candidates to file has extended by five days.

Maacks stated in an e-mail Friday - the last day for an incumbent to file - that he has decided not to run for a second term.

Maacks, a former police officer and recently retired investigator with the State Bar Association, was a maverick and often the lone dissenter in 4-1 council votes.

Other candidates now have until 5 p.m. Wednesday to file their paperwork to run for office.

The other two incumbents - Joe Palla and Carol Russell - are both running for another four-year term. Also in the race are former Mayor Gus Wolter; former City Clerk Michele Winterbottom; and businesswoman Jude Gibson-Byers.
