A fugitive who has reportedly been on the run for two years was taken into custody Tuesday by the U.S. Marshal Service and the Clearlake Police Department.

John Anthony Lewis, 53, was arrested after he left Wal-Mart near Dam Road in Clearlake. The Wal-Mart exit onto Dam Road was partially blocked for about 10-15 minutes during the apprehension of Lewis.

In 2012 in Sacramento County District Court, Lewis was convicted in absentia on a number of charges, including DUI, possession of a stolen vehicle, evading police and resisting arrest and sentenced to 11 years in prison. Lewis reportedly fled during the court proceedings and has been on the run since, Clearlake Police said.

Lewis also had a felony arrest warrant out of Washington state on suspicion of failing to appear in court on a number of drug charges, police said.
