Unknown thieves looted a trailer of Segway scooters and other equipment worth about $71,000 after stealing the vehicle from a Petaluma hotel parking lot, police officials said.

The 14-foot Haulmark trailer had been parked at the Sheraton hotel off Lakeville Highway at the marina for several days before someone noticed it was missing, Lt. Tim Lyons said. The white trailer was stolen sometime between Sept. 26 and Oct. 2.

At about 10:20 a.m. Friday, a Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy reported finding the trailer parked off the road at Adobe and Stage Gulch roads.

The trailer was empty. Missing were nine electric Segway scooters, audio and video equipment owned by Segway Tours of Petaluma, Lyons said.

Anyone with information about the case can call Detective Adam Wirtz at 778-4372.
