SAN MATEO — One pit bull was killed when police rammed two dogs with a patrol car south of San Francisco after the animals attacked several people.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/15eVWCi) police received the first call Wednesday morning from a man in San Mateo who said he had been attacked and nearly bitten by two pit bulls.

Before police arrived, three more callers reported the dogs were chasing people around a neighborhood.

Police followed the dogs into a yard where they attacked a landscaper who fended off the dogs with a leaf blower.

They ran toward a woman pushing two children in a stroller. She was not injured.

Unable to corral the dogs, an officer hit both animals with his car, killing one instantly. The other dog was captured. The owner is cooperating with police.
