San Francisco coroner says human remains are from 1 man (w/video)
SAN FRANCISCO — While the San Francisco medical examiner has determined that the human remains found inside a suitcase abandoned on a downtown street belong to an unidentified light-skinned man, police have released a description of a suspect.
Authorities will now turn to a DNA laboratory to determine the identification of the person.
The suitcase was found abandoned Wednesday afternoon in the city's South of Market neighborhood. More body parts were found in a trash can nearby.
Investigators on Friday released a rough description of a suspect. He is described as a white man, age 50 to early 60s. Surveillance video shows the suspect is 5 foot 7 to 5 foot 8 and was wearing a pinstripe baseball hat, blue and orange jacket and light blue jeans, police said. He may be transient.
Authorities say the case remains under investigation, with determinations about the cause and manner of death pending.
Homicide investigators went door-to-door Thursday in a San Francisco neighborhood looking for surveillance camera video — or anything — that could be a clue to the case. It was not immediately known Friday where police obtained the video showing the suspect.
