Temperatures hit freezing early Tuesday across Sonoma County, National Weather Service forecasters said.

The mercury dipped to 31 degrees at the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport and 30 degrees at the Petaluma Municipal Airport, meteorologist Matt Mehle said. The lowest temperatures recorded early Tuesday was 28 degrees in Graton and 26 in the Alexander Valley.

“It was some of the coldest temps we’ve seen in the area for quite a while,” Mehle said.

The cold snap was expected to continue Wednesday and begin easing up Thursday, bringing morning lows into the 40s, which is considered normal for this time of year, Mehle said.
