Rohnert Park police are looking for an armed man in a minivan who tried to hold up a doughnut shop.

Detectives have released photos taken from surveillance video in the area and are seeking help in identifying the man.

The attempted robbery happened at about 4:45 a.m. Friday when a man walked into Tan’s Donuts in the Golf Course Square plaza. The man was holding a handgun and demanded cash from employees, Sgt. Jeff Justice said Wednesday.

Employees declined to give him money and told him they were calling police. The man ran out and disappeared across the parking lot. Police were called, and officers searched the area but didn’t find him, Justice said.

Surveillance video of the square showed that some time after the crime the suspect was carefully making his way through the lot, but not heading directly to a gold or tan-colored mini van - perhaps a Dodge Caravan - parked there, the sergeant said.

The man eventually got into the van and drove away.

Justice said the van may have a sticker in the lower left corner of the back window.

The man’s ethnicity wasn’t clear but Justice said he was about 6 feet, thin and wore a blue T-shirt and green sweatshirt.

Police asked anyone with information to call detectives at (707) 584 2630.
