SUNNYVALE — Authorities say two people have been treated for minor injuries after a hazardous materials explosion inside a building in Sunnyvale, and the situation has been deemed safe.

Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Capt. Jeffrey Hunter says the people injured Thursday afternoon are employees of Altex Technologies Corp., which has offices in the building.

The company's website says it develops fuel-cell power systems, combustion systems and renewable fuels.

Hunter says the employees were performing research when there was a reaction that caused an explosion. The employees were sent to a hospital as a precaution.

The building was evacuated, but Hunter says employees of other businesses in the building have been allowed to return to work.

Sunnyvale is in Santa Clara County, about 40 miles south of San Francisco.
