A woman whose minivan crashed and overturned on Petaluma Boulevard North had to be extricated by firefighters Sunday afternoon.

The crash occurred shortly before 1:40 p.m. not far from the Petaluma Police Station. Petaluma firefighters from Battalion 93, Engine 9381, Medic 991 and Truck 9351 responded to the scene and found the white minivan on its side with the woman trapped inside.

Emergency crews used extrication tools to cut away the roof of the van and then removed the woman. She was transported to a local hospital by a Petaluma Fire Department ambulance with what appeared to be minor injuries, officials said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
