A school bus turning onto Petaluma Hill Road in Santa Rosa struck and injured an adult pedestrian Thursday afternoon, the CHP said.

It was not clear how badly hurt the man was, but he was rushed to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment, emergency personnel said.

CHP Officer Juan Leon said the bus driver, Kenneth Lewis of Santa Rosa, was turning left from Crystal Hill Drive onto southbound Petaluma Hill Road when he encountered the unidentified pedestrian about halfway across the road, just north of the intersection with Kawana Springs Road. There is no crosswalk at that location, and Leon said Lewis, a driver for the West County Transportation Agency, hadn’t seen the pedestrian.

Two students were on the bus when the 3:41 p.m. incident occurred, he said.

In the aftermath, some bits of shattered white plastic or glass remained in the southbound lane near the center line a few feet away from some orange spray-painted markings indicating where the injured pedestrian fell.

No additional information was immediately available.
