Man killed in Lake County crash

Albert Charles Koran Jr., who was killed in a head-on collision in Lake County on Saturday, was co-owner of eight Sleep City stores in the North Bay, including in Santa Rosa.

Koran moved from New York City to California in 1972 and worked in the restaurant industry, where he met his wife, Kathleen Koran. He partnered with Mark and Michael Thomas to open the original Sleep City store in San Rafael, said his close friend Frank Briceno.

When the accident occurred on Saturday, Koran was returning with his family from a trip to Trinity Alps Resort near Weaverville, an annual tradition they enjoy with dozens of friends from Santa Rosa, Briceno said.

A memorial service will be held next week.
