A woman was arrested Saturday after crashing a rental pickup truck with a stolen scooter in the truck bed in downtown Guerneville, injuring a pedestrian, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said.

The episode began when the scooter’s owner spotted it in the truck in the Guerneville Safeway parking lot about 10:45 a.m., Lt. Greg Miller said in a press release.

The truck’s driver, after a confrontation with the scooter owner, sped from the parking lot and was spotted by a sheriff’s deputy on First Street, authorities said. The deputy turned on his lights and siren and pursued the truck, which crashed into a parked car at the intersection of First and Main streets, according to officials.

The impact pushed the car onto a curb and into a second parked car, trapping a person between the two vehicles, Miller said. Bystanders assisted two deputies in moving one of the cars enough to free the person, who was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, he said.

The truck driver, identified as Kristy Chavez, 31, was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of possessing stolen property, felony evading an officer and for an outstanding warrant from the California Department of Corrections, Miller said.
