A Fort Bragg man was in custody Tuesday, suspected of being the driver in a hit-and-run crash that killed a Fort Bragg bicycle rider, the CHP said.
CHP officers Monday afternoon arrested Isabel Gutierrezvillarreal, 41, on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing death and vehicular manslaughter.
Rider Jacob Aaron Howard, 36, had been on a bike along Highway 1 the afternoon of July 12 when he was hit by a red pickup truck whose driver didn’t stop, the CHP said.
A witness called for help, describing the departing truck. Howard was found dead along the shoulder of the coast highway, south of Boice Lane.
Debris from the impact littering the area helped investigators know the truck had front end damage and a broken headlight.
On Monday, a member of the Mendocino County’s major crimes task force, who was investigating, spotted a 1988 Red Nissan pickup with similar damage. The truck was taken as evidence and investigators looked for the driver.
At about 3:45 p.m. officers arrested Gutierrezvillarreal. He was taken to the Mendocino County Jail.
